The design depicts a cross section view of a tree, revealing the inside rings and the surrounding bark, which would be cast as the raised relief areas. The design is based on an actual cedar log from Vancouver. Trees are vital to the health of the city and our trees depend on the water within the storm and sanitary sewer systems of Vancouver that are interconnected within the naturally revolving cycles of drainage, evaporation, rain, collection and reuse. The design is a reminder for us preserve, protect and plant trees every year in the city for generations to come.
